It was my first tutorial today.
or rather, first AFA tutorial of the semester, and the 2nd CF tutorial for this final 6 months.
finished early for AFA, went to have lunch at the foodcourt 6 that i once hated and disliked
so much.
the taste of the food there is nostalgic.
brings back memories.
and i can almost see my friends there, because it was there that the taste of the food, sight and sounds of my friends all come together to form the "Polytechnic Memory".
its the same place, but it feels different.
the human factor is different.
the familiarity of faces is gone, to be replaced by unfamiliar current year 3 students.
i was seriously half expecting to see people from last year's final year DAC students.
but i didnt see any.
its strange how some places can stay the same, but make you feel differently.
its strange no matter how ugly, how derelict the place can look like,
with all the right friends and company, any place would seem like heaven.
humans are after all, social creatures.
the thing about laptops
Tuesday, April 24, 2007
okay, its freaking unusual for me to blog twice in a day,
but compared to how funny the world can be, it really is not worthy of mention.
and no this is NOT a depressing post.
rather a very funny one.
i was in the library just now, during lunch from 1 to 2.
i passed by many year 1 students.
and how do i know they are year 1 students?
from the glitz, smooth and shiny surfaces of their reflective LCD screens,
as well as the scratch-free black cover of their laptops,
together with the near unused compact keyboards.
its really funny watching them use their laptops.
it seems like its the most holy thing in the world, and should be treated with utmost respect.
and to compound it, i saw a girl, using her new laptop, accessed Mozilla Firefox.
I could tell that she wanted to go to some website, but i don't know what.
from the way she was tapping on her keyboard is like as though
oh-i-must-not-over-press-the-keys-or-the-laptop-would-explode.
like hello????
it was so hilarious watching her press the keys on her laptop that i would LOVE to stand behind here and watch her fuss over the pressure she should use on her keys, precise to the mili-newton.
but i guess it wouldnt be long before their laptops lose their shine and become so scratched that even the creases on our palms have to literally, take their hands off it.
LOL.
okay i admit i'm speaking from experience..
like my laptop.. used to be silvery-grey inside, with the black carbon cover so perfect, so flawless.
and my keypads, with the nice contrast between the black background and the white markings on them. they too, had the same pressure-sensitive nature that i made up in the hysteria that i actually OWNED a laptop.
and it used to be treated gently, like a baby.
like as though if i moved it suddenly or with huge motor movements, the parts inside would explode to smithereens.
it used to have regular 'screen-wash' with a wet piece of tissue paper.
and used to have dry cleaning too, with again, a humble tissue paper.
hey, its the thought that counts.
oh and yes, i forgot to add, the battery was in perfect working order. (read: WAS)
oh oh, and the touch-pads were so clean, that not a single micro-organism can be found.
in short, if was PERFECT.
BUT... the terrible BUT..
the silvery grey frame became tainted with black particles that could have spawned a new life form.
the black outer cover fared slightly better, with a few fingerprint marks (free fingerprint ID should i lose my laptop), but minus- the shine.
the white markings faded to grey, the slightly roughed keypads turned smooth through constant rubbing from typing. (with the occasional banging due to stress from playing dotA).
the pressure sensitive keypads suddenly began to disappear, only to be replaced by ultra-durable-keyboard-which-can-take-any-types-of-physical-abuse.
i started to stop treating it like a baby and subject it to abuses like throwing it on the bed, carelessly banging my laptop onto hard surfaces.
that way i know if the manufacturer had been lying with their claims on 'shock-proof', 'spill-proof' and 'impact-proof' or something.
the screen-washes disappeared, to be replaced by something called 'neglect'.
the battery become permanently detached from my laptop because it was damaged.
so it feels lighter. ahh yes, 1 good point about wear and tear, finally.
the touch pads became a food source for micro-bacteria, and it could possibly be a new habitat for the black particles on my silvery-grey laptop frame.
and ohh.. i cannot wait to see what happens to those year 1s with their shiny laptops.
i am secretly waiting for their laptops to turn out worse than me,
and i hope their laptops would age faster than my 2 year old toddler laptop,
by over-using their laptops everyday in school, for games and school work.
plus the extra burden on their beloved babies with carrying it around, there by hastening the rate of wear and tear.
HAHA yes, i am a laptop sadist.
but wait, i think i'm just jealous :D
so.. this is the second AFA lecture..diaoz..many things to copy..as usual.. journal entries ..which reminded me why i hated AFA1 so much :/.
DAMN YOU CONSOLIDATION!
tutorials are on thursdays..i seriously don't know if i would do them..
even though i have got 5 days off from school..
guess i really really need some motivation!like a kick in the butt, heh.luckily i have a nice lecturer.. taught me AFA 1 the previous academic year..haha..
he actually said that he doesnt mind if the forward module students for AFA 1 don't attend lecture..he's fine with it.. lol.guess he really understood us eh!
but he said to attend tutorials..just about an hour behind he said this, i was thinking about having 3 times to skip AFA 1 lecture..because most of the stuff i've heard before..
so whats the point i going.. haha..
guess i can go when i want to :/
but then again.. theres a reason why i failed it in the first place =(
so i guess i better attend all the lectures and tutorials..
and NOT MAKE not having enough sleep a viable excuse!
and it seems nice that jess is also retaking AFA 1 with me, because we can hang out during lunch, which is before my Corporate Finance lecture by Lu Geok Lan..
this saves me the problem of trying to find things to do during the hour..
but i'm so not in the mood to hang out, meet people, and engage in small talk with them..
i guess its the lack of sleep,
or simply because i had prawn mee on top of a LARGE CUP of golden roast packets of coffee.and i feel like puking on the train,
seriously.
guess the warning about me on the verge of puking didnt manifest itself deep enough for me to remember, until i felt like crap.
so feelin much much better now. the puking 'disorder' is almost gone now
HAHA
thanks to the toilet visit i had just now =)
its almost 2 now, so i got to log out now to be in time for lecture.till then =)

follow your heart

i've been reading a book titled "Follow Your Heart", by Andrew Matthews.
Ya know, I dont really think motivational books or workshops help, especially the latter, but I've come to the conclusion that there are really good books under the motivational umbrella after all.
This book has many memorable quotes, but let me state the 10 concepts that are the backbone of this wonderful book:
1. We are here to learn lessons, and the world is our teacher.
2. The universe has no favourites.
3. Your life is a perfect reflection of your beliefs.
4. The moment you get to attached to things, people, money ... you screw it up.
5. What you focus on in life expands.
6. Follow your heart!
7. God is never going to come down from a cloud and say, "You now have permission to be successful!"
8. When you fight life, life always wins.
9. How do you love people? Just accept them.
10. Our mission in life is not to change the world - our mission is to change ourselves.
These statements are just so true! None of them contains fallacies. I wish i could pick one or two statements out for discussion, but since they are all so true ...
I mean like WOW?! Life lessons and the reason for us being here, and just everything and absolutely everything can be brought under the umbrella of the 10 concepts.
I'm quite impressed and amazed by the author, he never fails to offer motivating advices and questions that make you think, "Hey, I have been in that situation, and I have thought the way a loser would think. Why didnt I think about the problem or situation from another point of view?"
hahaha.
In short, I'm impressed.
When ever you are feeling down or feeling that the world just fucked you, read the book.
"My life is a series of lessons i need, happening in perfect order."
Healthiest approach, maximum peace of mind.
"Life is like a lottery, but I make the most of what comes along."
Next best option, offers average quality of life.
"Why do bad things always happen to me?"
Guarantees maximum misery and frustration.
Everything happens for a reason.
We get hit by pebbles. Its time to change.
Ignore it.
We get hit by stones. Its time to change.
Ignore it.
We get hit by a sledgehammer.
Thats when we complain how life sucks.
The above life lessons are from the book Follow Your Heart, by Andrew Matthews.
Hope this entry helps.
back from.. chalet.

o well the chalet didnt turn out too bad afterall.
the location wasnt that fantastic, but it can still be considered as accessible.
its hell of a chalet, with what, 3nights stay?
somemore its just 10mins walk away from changi village, the unorthodox 'food haven', what more can i ask for?
im glad the sotongs and the stingrays and the chicken wings and the 3layered meat turned out well, especially the latter two, because i did the marination =)
and so, i guess we wont be having a chalet for quite a while, because we are over 'chaleted'!
and of course, whats a chalet without the usual grumbles of unfairness and other factors of discontentment, derived from the usual 'emotions before logic, self-interests before common good'.
but seriously, 15 a day for such a chalet is really beyond me.
it has 2 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a BBQ pit and a porch for bbq.
lol. this is one of the better chalets.
afterall, the gas is working and its the first time i've cooked in a chalet, thanks to the faulty gas cylinder at the previous bungalow chalets at aloha loyang.
tata.
gtg zz.
been surviving on 4 hrs of sleep daily
chalet chalet, the origin of all stress.

having a chalet is supposed to be a good thing.
we are supposed to have fun and laughter and just by all means, relax.
but now i duno why i feel so )(@#$)(@!#*!@)(#*#).
year in year out, for every chalet, its always the same people doing all the fucking shit work.
this 'fucking' shit work, includes:
.doing all the booking and settling the administrative procedures.
.doing all the preparation work for OTHERS so that they can have a fun time
.collection of money for the chalet.
read, point 2.
the more i think about it, the more fucking pissed i get.
why is it that its ALWAYS the few of us doing this and the rest can just
sashay in and have fun?
why cannot we take turns to do the preparation so that these few of us who ALWAYS do the preparing can finally have fun, minus all the tedious preparations?
knn, dont wan to think still not so pek cek
now think liao even more
ccb.
sigh.
played dota just now, and got shown 'attitude' for whatever trivial reason.
i was thinking, everything put my house, then like everything must argh fucking shit.
i feel so frustrated as though my pent-up anger can literally blow away tampines.
from the start already pekcek liao cause the chalet always cannot fucking confirm where isit, how it looks like.
keep ask ask ask, but to no avail.
i wasnt really keen on this chalet because the enthusiasm has been somewhat been dampened by the fact that we dont know where isit.
sigh.
sigh sigh sigh.
i just wish tomorrow can come, and its not because of chalet, but because its my first lesson as a tuition teacher.
