today is the first time i went to Pulau Ubin!
dang. i must be the most sua-gu person in singapore...
having lived here for like 19 years i havent been to pulau ubin..
to compound the sua-gu-ness, i live in the east where its very near
ubin so -.-!
after having lunch at changi village, we went to the jetty to wait for the next boat to depart to ubin.
it didnt take long before our turn.
the journey was like 8 mins i think..
and TA DAH!
i have offically stepped foot on ubin.
its surprisingly kampung like.
i love the feel.
its like as if im transported back in time to the 60s, where kampung
and road side stalls were the norm.
then we proceeded to rent several bicycles..
i took a blue mountain bike, while the rest took a normal bicycle with the exception of fungus's boyfriend, who went for the same class of bicycle with me.
WHAT A RIDE IT WAS!
we negotiated our way into the heart of ubin
into the forests, riding on unpleasant trails,
cycling our way up steep slopes, having our asses or rather having my ass bone
hitting against the hard seat my bicycle...
ahaha...
too bad my phone didnt have enuff memory.. .so did not take pics to upload them here..
other wise.. you can see what i mean by unpleasant trails and steep slopes -.-!
we cycled for about... 4 hours before returning it...
can u believe it?
4 hours for only 6 bucks..
damn.. now that is a REAL bargain...
ok anyway.
today's straits times talks about the post election review for the recent GE.
surprisingly, the top priority that goes into shaping the vote is
good governance, unlike bread and butter issues, and upgrading, which the PAP is known in this GE for tying it with votes.
so. the GE is over.
PAP won 66.6% of the valid votes.
retained its 82/84 seats in parliament.
However, Hougang and Potong Pasir rejected the PAP's carrot of a total of 160million dollars worth of upgrading, with an even larger margin.
certainly a SLAP in the face for the PAP, especially for Mr. Goh Chok Tong who is specially tasked by the PM to win back the
opposition held wards.
Certainly something is lacking. The PAP tactic of votes for upgrading has clearly not worked in the opposition wards.
They need to understand that not every Singaporean agrees with his strategy, even in wards that are under PAP charge.
O well.
I was rooting for the Workers' Party to actually win in Aljunied, after attending several rallies by the WP.
All i can say is one word. Shiok.
High in positive energy.
High in everything.
But then again, the results are already annouced on the night of 6 May 2006.
This is reality and i have to face it.
Another 5 years, and perhaps, a GRC may fall to opposition hands.
If this happens, a percedent would be set, and the opposition would have more reason to believe that nothing is impossible in the politics.
Except of course, getting sued.
